Doctor – patient communication

An early study of physician-patient communication…. from the abstract:

“Recorded 800 interviews between doctors and mothers of children admitted to a pediatric clinic. Analysis of the interviews and follow-up interviews with the mothers suggests that the quality of the doctor-patient interaction is an important determinant of the quality of health care. Use of arcane terminology and a lack of expressed interest in the mothers’ anxiety and concerns about their children were significant deterrents to patient satisfaction and to compliance with the physician’s instructions.” (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved)
